North Florida Bone & Joint Specialists continues to embrace the healthcare technology revolution by adding custom, on-site manufacturing of durable medical equipment (DME) from XO Armor Technologies.

Available at all of our clinic locations, XO Armor offers efficient and effective solutions for Durable Medical Equipment (DME), resulting in sleek, custom-fit options for our patients. The user-friendly design and integrated printing feature come together to create a seamless experience; as we like to say, it's as easy as 1-2-3.

  • Step 1: Scan - With the press of a button, the XO Armor system captures high-quality 3D scans of the body quickly and accurately. Your provider will review the data, ensuring quality and making quick adjustments if necessary.
  • Step 2: Print - The scan data is transferred to our on-site printer, and your provider will monitor the printing progress, ensuring a seamless experience from start to finish.
  • Step 3: Apply - Once the custom device is printed, it is applied and fitted to the patient.

XO Armor's ease of use and efficiency offer numerous advantages to our patients:

  • Timesaving: The proprietary XO Armor system is user-friendly, which ensures your provider can perform the scan quickly and consistently. The on-site printing of your device results in shorter wait times for you to be fitted and use the equipment.
  • Quality Improvement: High-quality scans mean we can make custom-fabricated braces in-house without waiting weeks for an off-site specialist.
  • Cost Reduction: With in-clinic printing, there's no need to outsource device manufacturing, leading to cost savings that we pass on to our patients.

What types of devices can be printed on our on-site printer?

One of the many benefits of the XO Armor solution is that thousands of unique designs can be printed on the printer. We can create customized scans of the body, modify where needed, and print the device. However, the printer is not limited to "standard" devices. If we want to get creative and accommodate for a previous injury, sensitive incision, skin issues, or other concerns, the software and printer allow for a fully customized solution.

Where does my custom-scanned device print?

Our printer is physically located in one of our Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine offices. However, it is available for any of our providers at any of our locations to utilize. Once we've sent the customized scan to the printer, it prints right in our office, allowing us to fit it to you quickly.

What is the average time for a print to be completed?

The print time depends on the size and complexity of the device we create for you. The average time for a typical scan, such as a rib guard, wrist brace, etc., could be between 25-40 minutes. For smaller devices such as finger splints, ulnar gutters, hand guards, etc., the average time is generally less than 30 minutes. The average time might be 45-90 minutes for larger devices or those with extreme modifications. The exact time depends on size, thickness, modifications, and complexity.

Osteoporosis Management

We see our share of broken bones as an orthopaedic and sports medicine practice. From the high school baseball player who collided with first base a little too hard to the avid DIY’er who took a tumble from an unsecured ladder and everything in between, we’ve seen it all. As we age, we also gradually lose bone mass, which occurs as small amounts of healthy bone are absorbed into your body as small amounts are replaced. When more bone is absorbed than is replaced, the density (bone mass) is reduced. Osteoporosis develops when the bone is no longer replaced as quickly as it is removed, and over time, it causes the bone to become progressively weaker, increasing the risk that it may break.
