North Florida Bone & Joint Specialists is excited to announce the availability of the Hurt! smartphone app and the web-based version, accessible on a desktop device. This revolutionary new resource uses human-to-human interaction to connect patients with acute orthopaedic injuries to an expert Hurt! Care Navigator in real-time, 24/7, 365 days a year.

There is never a charge to the user or their insurance plan for using the Hurt! app.

Patients begin by downloading the app, free of charge, from the App Store or Google Play. Once the free account is set up, a patient can report a new injury by sending details and photos securely to the Hurt! team for an initial assessment to determine the next, most appropriate step - a same- or next-day appointment with one of our NFBJS subspecialists or our trusted emergency department partners. Regardless of where the Hurt! triage team sends a patient, NFBJS staff will reach out and provide the appropriate follow-up care to ensure all issues are managed appropriately.

Watch how the app works by viewing our Hurt! Demonstration Video.

While the app is not intended for life- or limb-threatening injuries, patients will find it helpful for dealing with issues such as sprains, strains and contusions from falls or slips while playing sports, working on home improvement projects, or participating in daily activities. It can also be used to address aches, pains, tears, pops or swelling in joints that haven’t gone away with the usual over-the-counter medications, rest and ice.

Although HURT! professionals are trained musculoskeletal experts; the app is for informational purposes only and helps users connect with the most appropriate medical professional based on their needs. Ultimately, the NFBJS and Hurt! app partnership empowers patients to seek care in the most efficient, cost-effective environment for an injury, saving many patients the cost, hassle, and risk of an emergency department visit.

Osteoporosis Management

We see our share of broken bones as an orthopaedic and sports medicine practice. From the high school baseball player who collided with first base a little too hard to the avid DIY’er who took a tumble from an unsecured ladder and everything in between, we’ve seen it all. As we age, we also gradually lose bone mass, which occurs as small amounts of healthy bone are absorbed into your body as small amounts are replaced. When more bone is absorbed than is replaced, the density (bone mass) is reduced. Osteoporosis develops when the bone is no longer replaced as quickly as it is removed, and over time, it causes the bone to become progressively weaker, increasing the risk that it may break.
